Bioethanol: Ethanol can be manufactured synthetically from petrochemical raw materials or biologically though the fermentation of sugar. SBZ Corporation supplies biological ethanol. Ethanol is not regarded as an environmentally dangerous chemical. When used as a fuel, ethanol is converted into carbon dioxide and water.
The closed cycle - Biological ethanol is part of the natural cycle. When biomass is refined and burned, oxygen is used up whilst carbon dioxide is freed into the air. This also takes place when ethanol products are broken down. The carbon dioxide is reabsorbed when plants convert solar energy to chemical energy in the form of sugar, thereby liberating oxygen. The oxygen is in turn used up when new plants and ethanol are burnt up and so on. We therefore have a natural closed cycle.
In contrast with ethanol, oil has no natural cycle. When burnt in boilers or cars it creates a constant addition of carbon dioxide to the air and the greenhouse effect is accelerated.
Corrosion can pose a serious risk in the distribution, storage and handling of fuel ethanol (see SBZ Corporation article, Biofuels International). SBZ Corporation offers a special corrosion inhibitor to effectively control this risk. The corrosion inhibitor can be supplied individually or already blended with methanol as required.
SBZ Corporation also supplies denaturant (denatonium benzoate) and methanol, with or without corrosion inhibitor, blended in the correct proportions for mixing with biological ethanol when used as a road fuel.
Biodiesel has combustion properties very similar to fossil diesel and can replace it in certain applications. Biodiesel is most often used blended with fossil diesel. It is one of the main candidates to replace fossil fuels as the world's primary transport energy source. It is a renewable, clean-burning fuel that can deliver benefits both to the environment and to vehicle engines where it acts as a lubricant. The use of biodiesel also helps consumers and businesses reduce their carbon footprint - the amount of carbon dioxide emitted as a result of energy used. Biodiesel improves engine lubrication, burns more completely thereby reducing emissions, is virtually sulphur free and can deliver increased engine life.
SBZ Corporation supply biodiesel to meet EN 14214 2003 (the European Standard for biodiesel as an automotive fuel for diesel engines).
