What is your role within SBZ?
What does your role involve?
I will be assisting Rachael Bywater, Wax Business Manager, with technical enquiries and new projects related to wax and coatings.
What skills do you need to do your job well?
Be able to multitask, have good communication skills, and work well with the team.
What did you study at university and where?
I studied at University of Valencia, Spain where I completed a Bs Honours degree in Chemistry.
What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy co-operating with suppliers, the sales team, and the production team. They all contribute and help me manage projects, sharing insight, knowledge, and experience to allow for quality, safe, efficient, and value-driven results.
If you could win the Nobel prize in Chemistry, what would it be for?
Creating a smart coating for cars where the owner can change the colour as they please.
How long have you worked in the industry?
I have been working in the industry for about four years, mainly in the UK. I worked in Spain as a PhD assistant at university where my primary role involved the optimization and characterization of methods to obtain conductors nano-polymers. Afterwards, I worked in a paint manufacturing company in Valencia as a laboratory technician for colour matching and correction, writing colour formulations. This experience led me to a paint manufacturer in the UK, where, besides colour matching, I worked in research and development, developing new water-based coatings.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Watching movies, going out for dinner… very normal stuff.
What made you want to work in the industry?
I started my career in coatings, but I have always been interested in petrochemicals. When the opportunity at SBZ came up, I was really happy. I feel I can contribute to the team with my experience and keep learning at the same time.
If you could invite three people to dinner who would it be and why?
Well, in an imaginary dinner, I would invite Sheldon Cooper (fiction), Charlie Chaplin, and Marie Curie. Having such great minds at a dinner table would be a very fascinating and funny dinner. With the peculiarities of Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory), the sense of humor from Charlie Chaplin, and the strong and knowledgeable mind of Marie Curie.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever heard?
Be humble, be nice to people and work hard because that is the only way you will succeed.
